Me Against The Music: Notes & Rules

Rules

  1. Every song must be listened to in its entirety. Even if I decide in the first 3 seconds that I'm deleting it from my collection, I still have to listen to it all the way through. Note: This rule is waived when the track is so corrupted as to be unlistenable.
  2. Fast-forwarding is obviously not acceptable.
  3. If friends or family provide me with music, I must listen to it. No matter how heinous it might be.
  4. I may not buy my own music during this process, no matter how much I want to. Only previously purchased music is permitted.
  5. A song can only be listened to once. After it has been listened to, it must be taken off my iPod to prevent repeat listening (and keep me from slowing down my progress by listening to much-loved songs on loop for hours on end).

Notes

This project is not about bashing anyone's music taste (except possibly my own). Deleting a song doesn't imply that I necessarily think it's bad. Likewise, me not liking a song doesn't mean it's a bad song. It's my opinion, which is supremely subjective and highly changeable. I hate things that are great. I can respect something without enjoying it, and love some things that are unquestionably terrible.

This isn't a judgment call or meant to make anyone feel bad about anything they like. This is all in good fun. I am not a music critic, or music expert, and claim absolutely no skills or knowledge in this area. All I have is a computer, an internet connection, and a ridiculous music collection.
