For reasons of her own, Elle has decided to listen to every single song in her music library and record the experience. These are her notes.
Tracks 1-10
Now, as this is the first entry, let's make a few things clear:
- I'm only discussing the songs about which I have something to say. That is why there are jumps in the numbers.
- This isn't a way for me to hide my shameful musical inclinations; the complete list will be posted on the sidebar for your mockery and derision. So enough stalling. Let's get to it, shall we?
1. Halloweenhead - Ryan Adams
Oh thank God the first song is a good one. At least I'm starting out on the right foot, and didn't embarrass myself immediately. That will come later I'm sure, but for now I at least have the illusion of dignity and musical taste. For the record, Ryan Adams has uttered two of my favorite insults of all time: 'Fuck off into a black hole and die,' and 'Fuck off to a Nickelback concert.' He also loves cats. Ryan Adams is the best.
3. Eternal Destiny (A Capella Mix) - Alex Kharlamov & Randy Miller
This is from the Supernatural soundtrack. Expect to see a lot of that.
4. She Waits - Louden Swain
I get kind of gushy about Louden Swain, but with good reason. This band is amazing and wonderful, and puts on a kick-ass live show. I originally tried them out because the lead singer Rob Benedict is an actor I like enormously (you may know him from Supernatural, Not Another Teen Movie, and Waiting…). Now I know they say that actors shouldn't start bands, but this is absolutely the exception to the rule.
5. Smetana: The Bartered Bride - Overture - János Sándor: Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra
People are always confused by the fact that I like opera. I don't know why. Do I not appear to be a person who appreciates a good opera? Is it because I was really, really into grunge (and let's face it, I still am)? What is it about my demeanor that screams 'This individual despises opera and all things associated with it'? I love the opera. The opera is fun.
7. This Is All Now - Taking Back Sunday
I've seen this band a lot in concert. Like I think we're solidly in the double digits by now. I regret nothing and will continue to regularly see Taking Back Sunday on tour for as long as they deign to travel the road singing songs that make me feel feelings.
8. Casino - Tykwer, Klimek & Heil (Run Lola Run)
For those of you who don't remember, Run Lola Run was the shit. I don't know why the movie made everyone lose their minds, but it did. It involved a lot of running (in case the title didn't tip you off), although I'm fairly certain that wasn't the factor that made it so appealing. I haven't seen the film in about decade so I don't know if it holds up, but the soundtrack is still pretty outstanding. And, unsurprisingly, extremely good workout music.
10. Sea Of Time - The Beatles [DELETED]
Years ago, I had another laptop. And that laptop served me long and well. For years it was a good and noble companion, helping me with college assignments and accompanying me as I figured out this new technology called 'Facebook.' These were the dark ages, my friends -- Friendster was still a website people used. But through it all my laptop remained true; that is, until the day it punked out, flipped me the digital middle finger, and shut itself off. I did my best to transfer all my files, but a large number ended up hopelessly corrupted. This song is one of the casualties, and as such the first to be deleted.
